How did you become interested in the field of Psychology?
Like many of us, I was drawn to a career where I could help people. After I graduated undergrad, I interviewed for a position as a research assistant doing clinical trials with Alzheimer’s disease patients and became enamored by neuropsychology and geriatrics from that point forward.
Briefly describe your area of specialty:
I am a neuropsychologist, which can be described as the overlap among psychology, neurology and psychiatry, and the study of brain-behavior relationships. I only evaluate adults and have a special interest in geriatric neuropsychology. I love nerding out over differential diagnosis with my coworkers.
Based on your specialty, what is one piece of advice for our readers?
Exercise! Both cognitive and physical. It’s free and is a great way to possibly delay onset of dementia later in life.
Can you provide a recommendation for how our readers can begin to implement your piece of advice?
Make small concrete goals. Make it fun. Reward yourself when you reach short term goals.
Tell us something fun about you: If you weren’t a psychologist, what would you be?
A real estate agent or a cantor.
